Students working with staff from the Royal Botanic Gardens.18 December 2018

, Footscray, is looking to nature for creative inspiration.

Students have been working with staff from the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria on a biomimicry unit and referencing organic forms to design an art installation for the school. Inspired by the three pillars of community, faith and growth, students have sketched and sculpted a variety of shapes while learning about the natural world. The school will begin working on the sculpture in 2019.

‘This has been a way for our students to see nature differently, instead of just focusing on materials’, said school principal Gemma Goodyear. ‘It’s a way our students can design a sculpture that represents who we are as a school.’

The biomimicry unit at the Royal Botanic Gardens is currently being developed for secondary schools.
