Role Description/Criteria

Key Responsibilities

  • To take responsibility for a core group of St Mary’s College students, including partaking in Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings, developing Personal Learning Plans (PLP) and ensuring adjustments and interventions are in place.
  • To provide explicit teaching to assigned students or classes following Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ Vision for Instruction practice and following the Victorian Curriculum and Expanded Core Curriculum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students.
  • To identify and respond to the social and learning needs of deaf and hard of hearing students within inclusive education settings.
  • To liaise with families, allied professionals and partner school staff on student progress, engagement, assessment and reporting.
  • To work as part of a St Mary’s professional learning (PLC) team in striving to achieve high student outcomes through data analysis and evidence-based practice.
  • To be subject to the same directions as apply to all the staff of the partner school as well as St Mary’s Principal.

Role

  1. Planning and implementation of student plans containing specific goals which will be included in teaching and interventions programs.
  2. Teaching well planned units of work with clear learning intentions, success criteria and sequence of instruction as identified through needs assessment and following a multi-tiered intervention system.
  3. Assessing, collecting data and using research-based knowledge to plan differentiated teaching through a cycle of inquiry process.
  4. Documenting learning, student assessments and achievement outcomes on a continual basis through the Learning Management Platform (SIMON).
  5. Using feedback from coaching, observation and student data to measure impact and make adjustments to practice.Ìý
  6. Providing support, advice and guidance to partner school teachers on modifications and adjustments as appropriate.
  7. Following procedures and practices as identified in St Mary’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework.
  8. Being responsive to the pastoral care needs of students and their families.

Qualification and Requirements

  • Professional qualifications in the education of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (or a willingness to undertake further study).
  • Registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
  • Willingness to support and participate in the Faith activities of the school community.
  • Capacity to understand and implement Duty of Care and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Teachers without qualifications to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students are able to access a fully funded scholarship through St Mary’s to complete an appropriate Master of Learning Intervention or Disabilities Studies.Ìý
